Kayal - Changing Perceptions

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” The art exhibition organized and presented by Kayal, the art club under the Department of International Studies and History and Vrittanta, the association for International Studies and History, truly upheld the very spirit underlying this quote. This exhibition, being the third and the final one for the academic year 2016-2017, took place on the 14th and 15th of February, 2017. Just like the previously held editions, Kayal never failed to attract a large number of students, teachers, art lovers and almost every passerby to survey the exhibition and collect some beautiful works of art for themselves.

The exhibition was set up within the CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Central campus. The event was inaugurated in the presence of the respected faculty members Mrs. Vagishwari S P, Fr Jose C C, Mr. Joshy K J, Mr. Anurag Tripathi, Mrs. Greeshma Manoj and Mrs. Priyanka. Mrs. Vagishwari S P and Mr. Joshy K J performed the honors of cutting the ribbon.
The theme selected for this exhibition was “Nostalgia - Memories That Remain”.  A large array of paintings, sketches and craft work was displayed portraying this theme. The art pieces ranging from photo frames, glass bottle paintings, bookmarks, tiaras, pen stands, wind chimes to explosive boxes were assembled on the desk for sale. The individual paintings and sketches were arranged across the walls and earned the appreciation of many.
The most striking feature of this exhibition was the use of waste in creating artwork. The materials were obtained from Parivartana, the waste management and paper recycling unit of CHRIST (Deemed to be University). The proceeds received, were given to the Centre for Social Action (CSA), the social work wing of CHRIST (Deemed to be University).

The work that was displayed, certainly reflected the efforts and enthusiasm of a number of students, volunteers and the entire Kayal team. This exhibition was inspiring and portrayed art in a variety of beautiful works. Creativity was at its best.
